PLA

Polymelkzuur of polylactide is de naam voor thermoplastische polymeren van melkzuur. Dit materiaal wordt vaak aangeduid met PLA (PolyLactic Acid). Dit materiaal is biologisch afbreekbaar en biocompatabel. Dit materiaal wordt geproduceerd uit plantaardige grondstoffen (maiszetmeel of suikerriet). PLA is een duurzaam alternatief voor de traditionele kunststof soorten die uit petroleumchemicaliën bestaan zoals polyetheen, polypropeen of polystyreen.
